About Me

Why so many mountains on my website? I grew up in Colorado and I suppose those mountains still call to me, although I’ve been in New England for nearly 40 years and resonate with the oaks and the maples and four distinct seasons.

I am a graduate of Antioch University with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and an undergraduate degree in English from Boston University. This is a mid-career change for me having worked as a graphic designer, fiber artist, teacher and farmer. I also homeschooled my teenage daughter and son from kindergarten until she was in high school, he in middle school.

As a white, cisgender, heterosexual woman in a transracial family, I am aware that the privileges of my social location mean that I experience the world in a different way than many of my peers and clients. I am committed to promoting equity and justice to foster the kind of relationships that allow for connection and security.

I am passionate about my garden, my kids and my work and when I learned about Attachment theory and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, I felt like I had come home.

“One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through and it will be someone else’s survival guide.”

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I love EFT because it gets to the crux of the problem. When we get stuck in a dance of disconnection either with our loved ones or within ourselves, our brains become distressed. For couples and families, the very person who we want to seek comfort and closeness from can be the person who is causing the distress. This presents a dilemma.

I love EFT because it recognizes this dilemma, makes it the cornerstone of how we help relationships to become closer and individuals to feel whole. Emotionally Focused Therapy, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a proven method to help individuals, couples and families feel safe and secure in their own skin and with each other. It marries Attachment theory and the science of neurobiology with an empathic, validating humanistic approach. No wonder it is so effective. Clients feel held and honored wherever they start and move into that safe zone at their own pace without being judged. EFT is effective with people at all levels of distress as well as people who struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, eating disorders and going through life transitions.

Getting Started

Fees and Insurance

While I do not accept insurance, you may well have out-of-network benefits.  Please contact your insurance provider to find out.  If you do, you may be able to get all or some of my fees reimbursed.

Otherwise, I charge $200/hour sessions for individual, couples and family therapy.

New Client Procedure

Once we have scheduled your first appointment, I will send you a link to my client portal so you can fill out my intake forms.  Intake forms should be completed the day before our first session.   The first 3 sessions I think of as time to assess to make sure that we are a good fit.

Cancellations

When you make an appointment with me, I reserve this time for you.  If you cancel in less than 24 hours, I am not able to fill that space with another client.  Therefore, cancellations made less than 24 hours from your appointment will be charged the full session fee.
